Experts at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Describe Current State of the Science
PHILADELPHIA,Feb. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Repairing birth defects in the womb. Inserting a tiny laser into the mother's uterus to seal off an abnormal blood flow and save fetal twins. Advancing the science that may allow doctors to deliver cells or DNA to treat sickle cell anemia and other genetic diseases before birth.
These are examples of the still-emerging field of fetal surgery. "Fetal surgery is a unique field in maternal-fetal medicine," said pediatric surgeon N. Scott Adzick, M.D., medical director of the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment (CFDT) at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "Detecting birth defects prenatally has allowed physicians to provide better perinatal care," said Adzick, "but many of these babies were already too sick for us to treat them successfully after they were born. This dilemma led to the development of fetal surgery."
"Some of the fetal anomalies we treat are so rare that a physician may encounter them only once or twice in a career," continued Adzick, who is surgeon-in-chief at Children's Hospital. "However, as prenatal diagnosis continues to improve, along with surgical techniques and tools of molecular biology, we have an expanded range of conditions for which we may devise ways to intervene before birth with clear benefits."
Internationally prominent as a pioneer in fetal surgery, Adzick edited the February 2010 issue of the journal Seminars in Fetal & Neonatal Medicine. That issue is entirely devoted to advances in fetal surgery. Adzick and other practitioners at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia describe innovative surgeries, high-tech procedures, and the prospect of prenatal gene therapy and stem cell treatments in a collection of articles reviewing the current state of the science in fetal therapy.
The CFDT, which marks its 15th anniversary this year, is a premier program, one of a handful worldwide to offer a full range of fetal procedures. Since the center opened in 1995, more than 10,000 parents have used its services, from all 50 U.S. states and from 46 other countries.
Open fetal surgery to remove abnormal masses or patch an opening
Open fetal surgery involves cutting into the mother's abdomen and uterus in order to operate on the fetus. In his article on open fetal surgery, Adzick describes the multidisciplinary team and sophisticated imaging technologies used to assess patients referred to the center, the only such facility that includes a Special Delivery Unit Rolex fake for mothers carrying babies with known birth defects. Adzick describes fetal surgeries for two life-threatening defects: lung masses, which may compress the developing heart, leading to heart failure, and sacrococcygeal teratomas, large tumors attached to the fetus's tailbone, which can lead to heart failure or a fatal hemorrhage before birth. Fetal surgery, he adds, places special demands on caregivers to ensure safety for two patients -- the mother and the fetus.
Adzick's second article concerns fetal surgery for open spina bifida, referred to as myelomeningocele. A defect in which part of the spinal cord remains unprotected by skin and tissue, it may result in hydrocephalus, mental retardation, bowel and bladder problems, and lifelong paralysis. While usually non-lethal, it is a relatively common cause of major disability,

FRONT ROW
THIS IS NOT AT ALL THE STANDARD puffpiece about the great old Golden Age you'd expect from a Warner Brothers DVD on the Brothers Warner - their family, their studio.
Instead it's a pretty powerful dramatic tale with an agenda, a fascinating one.
The writer-director is Cass Warner Sperling, brother Harry Warner's granddaughter. Cass feels Harry has gotten a raw deal from film history, that he got horribly screwed over by his more famous younger brother, Jack - the man we all know as the guy who had his name on the WB insignia on all those great '40s Warners movies, and also the schmuck who wouldn't cast Julie Andrews in her stage role of Liza Doolittle Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady," the schmo who swiped producer Hal Wallis' Oscar for "Casablanca," and the schlemiel who called "Bonnie and Clyde" a threetrips-to-the-toilet movie, the Warnerian kiss of death.
Cass, without getting too rough on her granduncle, wants to settle the score, to show what a great guy Harry was, and also what a bastard Jack could be. She does - mostly because there's a lot of people who seem to agree with her, including some of Jack's close relatives.
There were four immigrant brothers from a Polish family: Harry M. (1881-1958), Albert (18831967), Sam L (1884-1927) and Jack L. (1892-1978). Their surname wasn't really Warner, but you'll learn the actual surname at the end of the movie, and at the end of this review.
They were poor Jews who had to hustle, and elder brother Harry, who became the patriarch, took them into the nickelodeon business. They all stuck together. That was thencredo, Harry's credo. If we stick together, stay together, we four brothers can whip the world.
Harry was the head guy, Al was the business man, 深圳搬家公司 Sam was the innovations expert, and Jack was originally the "chaser," the boy soprano who stood up to sing at the end of the movie show and drove all the customers out, so you could get a new house.
Later Jack's voice changed and he became a playboy. Then he became the executive producer, his name plastered on the big Warner Brothers "WB" at the start of the pictures.
Sam died (after saving the company by taking them into the talkie era) with "The Jazz Singer."
Al kept them afloat with his economic smarts.
Harry was the boss and the social conscience. He was responsible for Warner Brothers' rep as the toughminded, idealistic, socially conscious studio, a place which did movies like "I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang1, and "The Life of Emile Zola" And "Casablanca." He fought anti-Semitism and Hitlerism, and tried to get antiNazi projects going, years before everybody joined him. (The Production Code actually frowned on criticism of Nazis and most other sitting governments.)
Harry was a mensch. Harry believed in taking care of his family, his people. Jack believed in good times. He was the guy with the dyed mustache, who chased women, told bad jokes (Jack Benny said Jack Warner would rather tell a bad joke than make a good movie), and who stole that "Casablanca" Oscar.
Warners kept going, got bigger and bigger, even though they lost the disgusted Hal Wallis.
The classic '4Os studio. Great company. Great movies. Round up the usual suspects: Bogart, Cagney, Bette Davis, Errol Flynn, Paul Muni Joan Crawford Barbara Stanwyck field Edward G. Robinson.

PETER Mandelson donned the smoking jacket and cravat of the archetypal cad last night as he prepared to stick the knife into his New Labour colleagues.
In a TV advert for the serialisation of his autobiography, the spin doctor-turned-Cabinet minister suggested the history of New Labour read like a 'fairytale', complete with rival kings and an evil prince - with himself cast in the latter role.
Tiffany Bracelet and Bangle Seated in a leather chair in an oak panelled office, Lord Mandelson said: 'Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
'Once upon a time there was a kingdom and for many years it was ruled by two powerful kings.
'But they wouldn't have been in power without a third man. They called him the Prince of Darkness,' adding with a smirk: "Don't know why".' He concluded: 'This fairytale wouldn't have a happy ending. But that's for next time.' Sources suggest the most eagerly awaited political memoirs of the year will be 'very gossipy', with a string of anecdotes about the power struggles between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair.
ed hardy wholesale Lord Mandelson had a ringside seat at the creation of New Labour in the mid-1990s.
As head of Labour's media drive he was initially close to both Mr Brown and Mr Blair. But after backing Mr Blair to become Labour leader in 1994, Mandelson had a catastrophic falling out with Mr Brown which endured for years.
In Government he earned the unusual distinction of having to resign from the Cabinet twice.
In 1998 he was forced to quit as Trade Secretary following revelations that he had received a secret loan from millionaire fellow minister Geoffrey Robinson.
Swiftly recalled by Mr Blair, he resigned as Northern Ireland Secretary just two years later following claims that he was involved in helping one of the billionaire Hinduja brothers obtain a passport. In a final favour, Mr Blair appointed Lord Mandelson as Britain's EU Commissioner.
Mr Brown brought him back to the Cabinet for a third time two years ago, following which the two men appeared to agree an uneasy truce.
Tory Chancellor George Osborne is said to be nervously awaiting publication of the book amid speculation that it could contain further gossip about Schalke04 the pair's controversial meeting on the yacht of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska two years ago.
Lord Mandelson's words suggest that his book, which was largely written when he was in Brussels, will not cover Labour's disastrous election campaign, when he was known to be frustrated by Mr Brown's poor performance.
His swift publication following Labour's defeat is said to have infuriated Mr Blair, whose own memoirs are finally due for publication in the autumn.

On Nov. 9, Hewlett-Packard kicked off a local initiative with 25 small businesses in the Village of Suffern and Town of Ramapo in New York. Together with ASI System Integration, an HP Office Printing Parmer in New York, HP installed 25 HP LaserJet P2055d printers and shared key printing practices - such as duplex printing, HP Smart Web Printing and turning off the printer when not in use - to help the businesses reduce their carbon footprint, paper use and energy consumption.
handbags g To better manage the printers' environmental settings, the businesses will download the new HP Eco Solutions Print Console when the software is released this winter.
As a result, the small businesses in Suffern and Ramapo could reduce their energy consumption by up to 60 percent, their carbon footprints by up to 41 percent, paper use by up to 37 percent, and energy and paper costs by up to 38 percent.
"HP believes promoting printing practices that help SMBs reduce their environmental impact right now will make a significant difference in the future," said Herbert Koeck, vice president and general manager, LaserJet and Enterprise Solutions, Americas, HP.
Managing Environmental Impact
HP expanded its HP Eco Solutions for printing with new solutions designed to reduce the impact of printing on the environment: HP's new offerings include the HP LaserJet P2055d Printer, the industry-first HP Eco Solutions Print Console, the HP Green Action Plan for Office Printing and advanced ColorLok Technology.
* HP LaserJet P2055d Printer: This fast and compact printer provides a networked, monochrome solution for maximum productivity As an ENERGY STAR qualified device with Instant-on Technology, the printer provides up to 50 percent energy savings over traditional fusing technology. It also supports automatic two-sided printing and 100-percent recycled paper.
* HP Eco Solutions Print Console: This tool helps SMBs easily manage a printer's energy- and paper-saving settings directly from a PC to reduce its environmental impact. The tool will be available later this winter as a free download at the HP LaserJet P2055d/dn printers.
* HP Green Action Plan for Office Printing: This plan guides SMBs through an easy process to assess their carbon footprint and build a printing environmental strategy. In building this plan, SMBs can utilize tools, such as the HP Carbon Footprint Calculator for printing, to evaluate their printing infrastructures, determine how much money could be saved by making the recommended changes, and then set realistic goals to realize these results.
* ColorLok Technology: HP is offering its paper-enhancement technology for use with recycled papers, enabling the same quality, even on two-sided printing, as many non-recycled papers. Plain papers (with or without recycled content) with ColorLok deliver bright colors and crisp black text that won't show through on twosided prints, so SMBs can reduce their environmental impact without sacrificing print quality.
* Trade In and Save Program: To date, HP has recycled more than 24,000 printers through the program, eUminating 500,000 pounds of scrap material from our nation's landfills. Through Dec. 31, companies can receive up to $1,000 cash back by trading in their old desktop printer for a new HP printer, which additionally will help companies to increase productivity while decreasing annual maintenance, operation expenses and energy consumption.

A Spanish corporation has agreed to arrange financing for the biomass plant a Concord company plans to build in Berlin.
Gestamp Biomass, a division of a Madrid-based corporation with more than $6 billion in revenue last year, committed to working with Concord-based Clean Power Development on biomass projects in New York, Pennsylvania and throughout the New England states.
The agreement bolsters plans for the 29 megawatt Berlin facility, which Clean Power says will create more than 100 jobs, and it signals future growth for a Concord company with four full-time employees. The companies say they anticipate producing as much as 180 megawatts at biomass facilities throughout the Northeast, with Clean Power as Gestamp's local partner.
"It's huge in that it makes us a key player in the biomass development in the northeastern United States, rather than just building a project in Berlin and Winchester," said Bill Gabler, project manager for Clean Power.
WINNIPEG JETS Clean Power first sought permits for the Berlin plant in November 2008 and in April received final permission to build. It had not secured project financing or a promise from a utility to buy the plant's output. Talks with Gestamp began about eight months ago, and the corporation has committed to providing project equity and arranging the balance of plant financing for all biomass plants the two companies pursue together in the northeastern United States. Clean Power has purchased a site in Winchester for a second facility and is studying connections to the power grid, Gabler said.
Clean Power continues to seek a power purchase agreement from an electric utility for the Berlin plant. The company has complained to regulators that Public Service of New Hampshire has wrongly refused to buy the output, and the case is pending.
Gabler said the companies plan to start construction this fall at a site east of the Androscoggin River. Construction will last 26 months and will employ 250 people, Gabler said. Once production starts, the plant will employ 23 people and create another 100 to 150 jobs in logging, forestry and trucking, he said.
The plant will produce enough jewelry-d energy to power about 30,000 homes, Gabler said. Clean Power is discussing a deal to sell 40 percent of the plant's production to power the Fraser paper mill in Gorham, he said. Clean Power had reached an agreement with Fraser Papers, but the paper company has since agreed to sell the mill to Manchester investment firm MerchantBanc, he said. Gabler said the Gorham paper mill uses about 9 million gallons of oil each year.
In its biomass partnership with Clean Power, Gestamp will provide project support and the benefit of worldwide experience in every aspect of the biomass business, the companies said in a joint statement. Gestamp Renewables, a subsidiary of Gestamp Corporation, works in wind, solar and biomass energy production around the world. It has wind power operations in Oklahoma and Nebraska and plans to build a solar facility in New Mexico. Gestamp Corporation also deals in steel and automotive parts. It operates 80 plants in 25 countries, including five U.S. plants located in Alabama, Michigan and South Carolina. It plans to build a facility in Tennessee.
In Clean Power, Gestamp found a partner that could help them enter the local biomass market, said Bill McBride, a spokesman for Gestamp.

Virginia Tech, laser manufacturer team up on breast cancer research
Virginia Tech researchers have developed compounds now being used by a company to destroy breast cancer cells in pre-clinical trials.
Theralase Technologies, a manufacturer of laser medical devices in Toronto, has reported that when the photodynamic compounds are used with lasers, they have successfully destructed cancerous cells. The company plans to release the study results to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada.
"This new research brings the potential for tremendous impact on a most devastating disease, and we are excited to be working with a world-class group of researchers to further develop this technology," Roger Dumoulin-White, president and CEO of Theralase, said in a January news release.
handbags v The PDCs were developed by Virginia Tech chemistry professor Karen Brewer and a team in biological sciences led by professor Brenda Winkel.
The man-made molecules developed at Tech release cancer-fighting agents, but they must be signaled by light. The new therapy uses a wavelength of light that is neither absorbed nor reflected by tissue to signal the molecules deep within the body, which then generate pharmaceutical compounds that can break apart DNA in tumors. Unlike previous methods, the treatement does not use oxygen. The new approach "required quite a bit of fundamental research," Brewer said.
Brewer further explained that unlike chemotherapy, the new method delivers cancer-fighting molecules just to the tumor site and toxins are not spread in the body.
"The thing I think is so exciting is the ability to kill cancer cells without making the patient generally sick," she said.
If pre-clinical studies this year are successful and the FDA and Health Canada approve the next phase, Theralase can begin human trials.

Sister Mary Dorothea Sondgeroth, President, St. Dominic Health Services
Sister Mary Dorothea Sondgeroth has proven that top executives can be successful in the business arena without sacrificing personal morals and beliefs. She is noted for her warm smile and graciousness as well as her business acumen that has made her an iconic leader. The MBJ recently caught up with Sondgeroth and asked her about healthcare reform, the proposed Madison County hospital, her vision for St. Dominic's and more.
Q--St. Dominic's has been Jackson icon for decades. Please give our readers a brief history of the hospital.
A--St. Dominic Health Services (St. Dominic's) is a faith-based non-profit health system providing a Christian mission of healing in the greater Jackson community for 64 years. The Dominican Sisters came to Jackson in 1946 in response to a community need for choice and access to hospital care. Today, we continue our vision to respond to the needs of our community through our many subsidiaries and outreach programs.
Q--In addition to your administrative responsibilities, you've been extremely active in both professional and civic affairs locally. Why do you elect to play such a lively role in the community?
A--Participation in community is extremely important to me and all involved in St. Dominic's. We're motivated by our mission of Christian healing, and establishing community is one of the fundamental expressions of our faith and commitment. Replica watches The greater Jackson area is such a wonderful, diverse community--I truly enjoy opportunities to meet and interact with residents and other civic leaders.
Q--How has the downturn in the economy affected St. Dominic Health Services, a faith-based healthcare organization?
A--Significant economic challenges exist for most healthcare organizations today, and these, in a like manner, confront St. Dominic's. Successfully addressing these challenges cannot and will not be possible without the support of the employees, the medical staff and our community supporters. We are blessed by their continued support. The downturn in the economy is only one of the many challenges we face and while we don't know what the future holds; we do know who holds the future. It is the Lord's work, and we are here to serve.
Q--Do you expect major changes in hospital operations due to healthcare reform? If so, what?
A--Healthcare reform is very complex and St. Dominic's, similar to many health systems across the nation, is working to understand and prepare for its impact. As we look to the future, both physicians and hospitals will be increasingly called on to demonstrate the quality of care that is rendered as part of the healthcare rennet initiatives. St. Dominic's is committed to reaching enhanced levels of quality patient care as we work with our medical staff to improve patient access, maximize the patient experience, avoid re-admissions and provide safe care through improved communication and care delivery.
Q--St. Dominic's Replica watches Hospital is proposing to construct a new hospital in Madison County if granted a certificate of need (CON) by the state. With the ongoing construction of a new River Oaks Hospital, can the county and surrounding area support two hospitals?
A--We have always supported the replacement of the hospital ib Canton and we're pleased to hear HMA is finally moving forward with construction. Madison County needs the replacement facility in Canton, but it also needs

PLANO, Texas, June 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dr Pepper Snapple Group (NYSE: DPS) today addressed numerous misrepresentations made by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which led workers at the company's Mott's plant in Williamson, N.Y., on strike last month.
DPS workers in Williamson enjoy significantly higher wages than the typical manufacturing employee in Western New York. According to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics National Compensation Survey conducted in 2009, the average hourly wage in the Rochester area for a production, transportation and material moving position was just over $14. Local Mott's employees were making an average of $21 an hour -- about 50 percent higher than the Rochester average. And during the previous three years, wages increased more than 10 percent.
makeup brushes Seeking a compensation package more consistent with local and industry standards, DPS negotiated in good faith with the union on a new agreement in 22 sessions -- some of which were federally mediated. The company's last, best and final offer kept wages unchanged if ratified by the April 15 expiration of the previous contract. After the deadline, the modified terms included a $1.50 per hour wage reduction, still keeping employee pay well above average for comparable jobs in the local market. Under the offer, benefits would also continue to be at least as good as those available to other DPS workers.
Bringing Williamson benefits in line with the rest of the company required several concessions, including freezing the pension for current workers. In addition, DPS asked to reduce the employer match on 401(k) from 5% to 4% - a market-competitive level that other DPS employees receive. Finally, the company offered the same competitive health plan that's available to the majority of DPS workers, which meant an increase to their co-pays and premiums. Employees would also still receive life, dental and disability insurance as well as a range of other optional benefits.
The union contends that a profitable company shouldn't seek concessions from its workers. This argument ignores the fact that, as a public company, Dr Pepper Snapple Group has a fiduciary responsibility to operate in the best interests of all of its constituents, sexy lingerie china recognizing that a profitable business attracts investment, generates jobs and builds communities. Dr Pepper Snapple Group is proud that Mott's has done that in Williamson for 55 years while also helping sustain a rich heritage of apple growing in New York.

Tuesday was the last day for the sale as well as submission of the Std XI admission forms. The process had started on July 16.
"So far, close to 60,000 forms have been sold, while 54,741 forms were received at the ARCs by Tuesday evening," said Palshikar. "We expect the number of applications received to cross 55,000 considering the data anticipated from the two ARCs," she added.

LONDON IRISH 15
TOULOUSE 21
TOULOUSE coach Guy Noves envisages resting his key players for large chunks of the Top 14 run-in with his team having secured their place in the final of the Heineken Cup.
Cameroon Their hopes of success on both domestic and European fronts remain intact following their hard-fought 21-15 victory over London Irish in the Heineken Cup semi-final at Twickenham on Saturday.
They prevailed despite having a mountainous absentee list - France backs Vincent Clerc, Clement Poitrenaud and Florian Fritz are among those injured while star flanker Thierry Dusautoir did not start as his father died in midweek.
With Jean-Baptiste Elissalde, Byron Kelleher and Maxime Medard playing through the pain barrier in the second half against the Exiles, Noves looks to have a depleted party for the remaining eight weeks of the campaign.
However, with eight games left in the Top 14's regular season, Toulouse should be assured of a top-four finish, which would qualify them for the semi-final play-offs at the end of June.
And over the next month, Noves looks set to focus his efforts on the Heineken Cup final which takes place in Cardiff on May 24.
"There is a great chance Toulouse are going watches-r to let themselves slip in the last part of the championship," he said. "We are in the final of the European Cup, we are practically qualified for the semi-finals of the Top 14 and we certainly haven't the means to compete on both fronts."
Toulouse had to weather a late storm against London Irish to reach the Heineken Cup final for the fifth time.
And Noves was proud of his team's never-say-die attitude, adding: "Our lack of replacements in the three-quarters meant we struggled at the end.
"Despite that, the pride of defending not only our jersey but the name of French rugby in England saw us home.
cheap ed hardy "We were playing our eighth semi-final and here we are in our fifth final. For a club that according to some people in certain newspapers was in crisis last year, that makes me happy."

The Associated Press
Viera, Fla.
Washington Nationals third tag carrera baseman Ryan Zimmerman needed only four full seasons to establish himself as one of baseball's brightest stars.
And he's not satisfied.
His 2009 campaign - a .292 average with 33 homers and a team- leading 106 RBIs - was capped by the kind of first-time accolades every player dreams of: selection to the All-Star game, a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger as the National League's top offensive player at his position.
So what does Zimmerman do for an encore?
Point out his flaws and vow to erase them.
"I honestly try to get better every year. Obviously, I had my best year individually last year. From when I went back and looked at it, I made a lot of mistakes," said Zimmerman, a former Kellam High and U.Va. standout . "I can do better than that. You just got to work hard, learn from what you did wrong and get better."
After a memorable season that included signing a five-year, $45 million contract extension, it doesn't go unnoticed that he is talking about improvement.
"That kind of just speaks to the character of who he is. He's not going to let himself be satisfied," Washington manager Jim Riggleman said. "We're really excited about what he did last year and what he can continue to do. He's is 25 years old ... and I think players at that age would like to think they're moving toward their peak, that they haven't peaked yet. That 26- to 30-year range is the most productive years for most ballplayers."
Zimmerman was happy with his offensive numbers last year, when he established new career highs in hits (178), home runs and batting average. He was more selective at the plate, which translated in better pitches to hit.
What he thinks needs improving is his defense, specifically his sometimes lackadaisical throw when he charges a ball or cuts toward the pitcher's mound, in front of the shortstop. Of the 17 errors he committed last season en route to the Gold Glove, several came in such situations.
"Defensively, the throwing thing," he said when asked where he needed to work harder. "It seems like each of the past couple of years Gucci Handbags I've had a little stint in each of the seasons and I obviously want to get rid of that."
Replica Rado Watches Though only a five-year veteran, Zimmerman has already assumed a leadership role in the Nationals' clubhouse.
"Leaders evolve on a ballclub," Riggleman said, "and he's so well respected by his teammates that that's something that is there for him to do."
Zimmerman's message heading into 2010: The front office has done its job and fortified the roster, so it's the players' responsibility to enact a turnaround from a 103-loss season.
"Even if you have a $200 million team like the Yankees, if those guys don't go out there and play, (you don't win). It's up to us to execute and to do the little things right and win," Zimmerman said. "When it comes down to it, it's our team and we're the ones who have to execute."
As long as Zimmerman puts up his usual numbers, Riggleman doesn't need to worry about any self-imposed pressure.
"The things that come out of his mouth make a lot of sense. He analyzes situations and know

ONTARIO - Mayor Paul Leon and Councilmen Alan Wapner and Jim Bowman want another term to continue their work.
Starting July 12, these incumbents might find out whether they have to fight for that chance.
Nomination packets will be in the hands of the public that day, and it will become clearer to the trio if anyone wants their spots. So far, Bowman and Wapner said, they haven't heard of any takers.
All three elected officials point to their desire to guide Ontario through the economic downturn as the reason to seek re- election.
"I hope the citizens have noticed that we as a council have managed the city in a positive direction, a balanced budget and the fact that this council has 10 to 12 years of experience," Bowman said.
Leon, who began his political career 13 years ago, is seeking re- election because he believes there is still much to accomplish in Ontario.
"There still remains the development of the new model colony and the commitment of a 'seamless' transition between the old and new sections of the city," he said. "Stability in these economic times is important, and now is not the time to rearrange leadership."
Leon believes now is the time to continue working toward improvements on behalf of the people of Ontario.
Minnesota Wild For Wapner, it's about returning to the basics, ensuring residents have the services they need.
watches-e Wapner said he'll do a lot of walking this election season, going from neighborhood to neighborhood and hearing from the public, he said.
As for how much he plans to spend for this campaign, Wapner said, "it all depends on the competition, the consultant fees and the research."
Hiring a consultant and conducting research alone costs his campaign $40,000. But the bulk of campaign finances is spent on mailers to the public, Wapner said.
"Based on the research, I'll know what's important to the community," Wapner said.
Bowman first served on the council in 1986. After a 12-year tenure, he stepped down to assume the role of fire chief. He would return to the council eight years later when he retired from the Fire Department.
During that 2006 election, Bowman said, he ran a campaign that cost $170,000.
Bowman said that was in large part because he had several opponents to battle on his journey back into the political arena.
While his goal isn't to raise nearly as much this year, he knows the current economy will provide some stumbling blocks.
"It's very difficult to run, and it's going to be difficult for everybody, the playing field hasn't changed," Bowman said.
Bowman said he already has the endorsements of several law enforcement associations because the council has presented a stable budget year after year, when other cities are having to make drastic cuts.

FITCHBURG - Holy Name's regular-season opener couldn't have been more enjoyable.
The second-ranked Naps broke open a tight baseball game with CMC rival St. Bernard's by scoring a pair of runs in the sixth and added another in the seventh to claim a 5-1 victory yesterday.
Clinging to a 2-1 lead, Naps starter Liam O'Sullivan ran into problems in the Bernardians' half of the fifth. A single, walk and a hit by pitch had the junior righty in a jam. But with two out, O'Sullivan escaped by getting junior Joe Balboni to line out to center.
That, in turn, seemed to ignite the offense. St. Bernard's reliever Pat Mercier was brought in to open the sixth, replacing junior Brian Cronin, who pitched well, allowing two runs on just four hits.
armani mens watches Holy Name opened the frame with consecutive singles by Dylan Flynn (2 hits) and Aaron Fossas (2 hits). An attempted bunt by Bill McGuirk ended with Mercier nailing Flynn at third. Following a fielder's choice that put runners at the corners, Mercier tried to pick off Dan Zinkus at first, but the ball sailed, allowing Fossas to score the Naps' third run. Billy Johnson followed with a single to plate Zinkus.
Holy Name coach Dan McGowan then went to hard-throwing reliever Nick Fritz to start the bottom of the inning. The sophomore retired the side in order in both the sixth and seventh.
Fake Fashion Hermes Handbags "In these league games, it's always a battle," McGowan said. "We were stinging the ball the whole game but they weren't falling in for us. But this team kept plugging away and we knew the ball would eventually find a hole."
O'Sullivan, primarily used as a reliever last season, handcuffed the Bernardians over the first three innings, allowing just one hit. But in the fourth, St. Bernard's got to the lanky pitcher for a run after Balboni reached on an error and came around on John Celli's triple to right, cutting their deficit to 2-1.
Prada Leather Handbags "This was the first start ever for me here," said O'Sullivan (5 IP, 1 run, 3 hits, 5 Ks). "The guys behind me made some great plays today, especially in the first two innings. They had the bases loaded and we got out of it together as a team. That was huge for us. Just knowing you have a team like this behind you really makes a difference."
"Overall we're happy as far as the way we played," said Bernardians coach Jim Beauregard about his team's first game. "Cronin did exactly what we were hoping he would do. It was his first varsity start and he gave us five quality innings."

NEW DELHI: A last minute change in the stand of the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) on Tuesday put paid to any hope of the Mayawati government for the early unveiling of the statues of dalit icons in the Rs 685 crore Noida Park project, where work was stayed by the Supreme Court over nine months ago.
Call it politics, as Mayawati government is no longer in the good books of UPA government, or zealous environmental concerns, the MoEF effected last minute changes in its affidavit, in which it had virtually agreed to allow completion of the almost-completed Noida Park project after making the UP government authorities adhere to stringent environmental conditions.
Sporting equipment However, the affidavit was virtually pulled back and changed at the last minute. A fresh one was filed seeking more time for a thorough evaluation of three reports of expert bodies -- Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History and Acharya N G Ranga Agriculture University, Wildlife Institute of India and IIT Delhi -- and suggest the future course of action.
The MoEF standing counsel Harish Beeran, who filed the affidavit, said he was not aware of any last minute change in the stand of the ministry. The MoEF said its Expert Appraisal Committee reviewed the reports on June 28 and 29 and felt that given the complex nature of the project and its impact on the surrounding bio-diversity as well as its proximity to the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, these reports needed to be vetted by an appropriate body possessing requisite expertise, particularly in the field of wildlife preservation and biodiversity.
The Forest Bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia and Justices Aftab Alam and K S Radhakrishnan had on Friday told the counsel for MoEF and the UP government that it would like to take up the stalled Noida Park project case on a priority basis and fixed July 23 for hearing.
Wholesale Jimmy Choo Handbags But, with the MoEF changing its stand, the statues, which have been covered by veils for the last nine months, will take some more time to shed them. Meanwhile, the UP government would have to continue spending Rs 3 lakh per day, as had been claimed by it on January 15 this year, for the upkeep of the underconstruction project site. It had said that 80% of the construction was over and that it would abide by any condition to get the project completed.
Taking a serious view of the Central Empowered Committee's finding that the project did not have proper environmental clearance from MoEF, the apex court had on October 9 last year stayed construction work at the park, which is spread over 75 acres of green cover earlier comprising the Nandan Kanan Park, Nature's Trail, Children's Park, Smriti Van and Navgrah Park.
The CEC after a site inspection on August 9 last year had given a report to the apex court saying a project of this nature mandatorily required environmental clearance from MoEF and recommended that no further work should be carried out till it got the green light from the ministry.
Replica Fendi Handbags "If the project is found by the MoEF to be environmentally viable, it may allow the project subject to appropriate safeguards/conditions. This will also imply that pending the environmental clearance, no further work should be carried out," it had said in its 39-page report to the SC.

A year ago, Michaela, from Dunfermline, Fife, made history by becoming the first woman to take charge of the world final when fellow Scot John Higgins won the title, defeating Shaun Murphy 18-9 in the final.
She said: "Refereeing the final was phenomenal. I was a little apprehensive, because that was the one match in which I couldn't afford to make a mistake.
"As it turned out, I honestly couldn't have had a better final. I had two great players and didn't have to worry about them. So I just had to focus on the table and on the match as it developed."
While she obviously loves snooker, Michaela remains keen to try something new.
She said: "I'd like to do other television work, especially Strictly Come Dancing. I've adored it right from the first series."
Michaela is married to Ross McInnes and the couple have two boys, Morgan, 12, and Preston.
She said: "Preston will be four during the World Championships, so we're going to have to change his birthday - as we did last year - and celebrate when I get back."
Michaela's initial reception as a snooker referee was a stormy one. Some of the male officials resented her arrival, especially as she was fast-tracked to the top.
At one point, her contract was terminated. But the television companies made it clear they were unhappy and she was reinstated.
Patek Philippe World Time Nowadays she is one of snooker's biggest assets. But the sport itself has been struggling with a dearth of tournaments and a lack of new stars to match the popular appeal of Stephen Hendry, Jimmy White and Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Boxing promoter Barry Hearn has been brought in to jazz things up. This is likely to mean shorter, more television-friendly, formats for many tournaments.
Less than 24 hours after posing for our pictures, Michaela flew to Beijing for the China Open.
She is a huge star in the Far East, where she also referees pool matches - so much so that it's unwise for her to venture out alone in case she is mobbed.
It's all a far cry from her firstyear science studies at Glasgow University.
Michaela decided student life wasn't for her and found jobs in advertising and recruitment.
Her break into refereeing came in 1998, when she stood in for an official at a pool tournament covered by Sky Sports.
She was head-hunted by snooker three years later and is now easily its most recognisable referee.
But to the disappointment of her fans, she wo

FROM a velvet glove to an iron hand, James Lisney interpreted Schubert's Moments Musicaux and Impromptus in meaningful and impassioned piano playing, concentrating on those written in 1827.
jaeger lecoultre master compressor Moments Musicaux D780 swept from the tender graceful sections of No 1, with purringly soft pianissimo sections, to the ever-familiar dancing Andantino No 2, to the continuously busy movement of No 4 and insistent demanding Allegro Vivace No 5. Capturing magnetic linking narratives in the two separate sets of Impromptus, James imbued wonderful colour and warmth in his performance.
Beginning with impelling and long-held widely-spaced G octaves in D 899, the journey took us through Schubert's abstract imagery.
replica handbags The jimmy choo handbags familiar languid melody of the No 3 In G Flat played sensuously in this black-noted key gave way to the tumbling accompaniment of No 4. The final set of Impromptus D 935 brought James' gentlest of touches producing whispers of notes in No 1, the familiar Rosamunde theme in No 6 and a dazzlingly technical display in the scale runs, trills, hemiolia and other devices in the final Impromptu No 8. Concluding with Chopin's Impromptu In G Flat, the seduction of a laudatory audience was complete.

Time's up for two highly collectable innovative watches featured in Fellows & Sons' wrist and pocket watches sale.
The items in the Birmingham-based auctioneers and valuers' auction were particularly sought after due to their rarity and additional special features.
A 1950s Breitling Navitimer wristwatch reached pounds 1,300.
Replica IPHONE The name combines the words "navigation and timer" as the watch was originally developed as a navigation tool for pilots.
They could use the slide rule to calculate remaining distances and fuel consumption.
The watch is one of a limited number produced bearing the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association Christian Louboutin Wedges Shoes logo, and B & Breitling Geneve on its dial, adding to its appeal. And the Rolex Sea Dweller launched in 1965 for diving and designed to withstand great depths, sold for pounds 3,000.
This generated interest as older sports ranges continue to be sought out by collectors.
Fellows managing partner Stephen Whittaker said: "These items are really interesting as they were designed for more than just timekeeping. We also have a secondhand jewellery and watch sale on Thursday (April 26) featuring a wide range of items, offering something for all tastes and budgets." Fellows & Sons gives buyers the opportunity to view sales catalogues through its website, fellows.co.uk, and has an online virtual catalogue with 3D pages and photography of each lot.

Flowers can look just as good on or in a cake as in a vase.
--------------------
IN TIMES when fresh produce was short and garden plots were meagre and minimal, giving space to flowers would have been a luxury, so where better to display your rising status than in the very public front yard? Vegetables were relegated to the rear of the house, and as for weeds, they ranked the householder down there with bookmakers, floozies and people who failed to wear gloves and hats to town.
Throughout history, however, proper gardeners have always known the filling and often health-giving properties of garden produce whatever it is labelled. We've been eating the flowers of broccoli and cauliflower for eons, while weeds, such wholesale women shoes as barley and wheat, were Stone Age staples.
Flowers may have been less used because of their colour. Research has regularly shown that people tend to shun blue and black food and intense colours are more usually associated with party food and sweets rather than a sensible diet.
As a naive cadet reporter, I was hauled over the coals at the insistence of the wife of the paper's managing director for publishing a recipe for rose- petal jam, passed on by actor William Bullock, although his tips for ant jelly and ox-blood pancakes probably didn't help. While these are tasty, the rose- petal jam is in better taste.
Rose Petal Jam
24 red or pink scented roses
1kg caster sugar
1 Tbsp lemon juice
300ml rosewater
150ml water
Cut the hard, white bases from the rose petals. Bring the sugar, lemon juice, water and rosewater to the boil in a pot and simmer until the sugar dissolves. Pour this over the rose petals. Cover and steep overnight. The next day, bring the ingredients back to a simmer and stir gently for about 30 minutes or until the jam thickens. Seal in small warmed jars.
For overall use, lavender has to be the great all-rounder. Its oil has effective Calgary-Flames antiseptic properties, it is said to calm the troubled soul and summon sleep at the end of a ghastly day, and to soothe coughs. It also makes a sweet-smelling furniture polish and gives your hair a shine as a final rinse. Dried and bagged, it scents linen, hankies and clothing, and keeps moths at bay.
It is increasingly popular on the palate, too, when added to shortbread, cakes, biscuits, jelly, bread, muffins and scones, and I have even discovered a recipe for sweet potato pie with a lavender crumble crust.
Always use Lavandula angustifolia types for scenting and eating. The camphor content of stoechas forms is unpleasant.
Lavender goes well as a substitute for rosemary in a lot of recipes, including meat and fish, and it is great in a sugary treat with coffee or a floral tea. This recipe comes from a workshop given by Velda Frobarth and Betty Snell at an early Garden Marlborough.
Lavender Meringues
3 Tbsp dried lavender flowers
3 Tbsp sugar
250g icing sugar
4 egg whites
Drop of lemon juice
Preheat the oven to 100 degrees Celsius. Whisk lavender and sugar to a fine

"Most of the national brewers have contracted their distribution out to specialist companies, and customer care isn't top of the agenda, so I saw an opportunity to get closer to the customer and offer a good service," he added.

AU chief concerned about situation in Madagascar
ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Jean Ping said on Thursday that Madagascar was one of the main political problems facing Africa, while calling for joint efforts to address the conflicts in the country.
The AU chief made the remarks as he addressed the opening ceremony of the 16th ordinary session of AU's executive council here in the Ethiopian capital, ahead of the 14th AU summit scheduled from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.
In the past months, some conflicts on the continent were moving towards resolution, but others remained deeply intractable, with no end in sight, he said.
Rolex Watch Replica Jean Ping, who returned from a mediation trip in Madagascar earlier this month, said neither the adoption of the Transitional Charter nor the agreements of Maputo and the Additional Act of Addis Ababa were enough to end the political crisis in the country.
During talks in Madagascar, he had called on political rivals in the world's fourth largest island to respect and implement the power- sharing deals, and hold elections at a time that allows for the guarantee of their credibility and transparency.
The AU chief welcomed the decision made by president of Madagascar's High Transitional Authority (HTA) Andry Rajoelina to put off the general elections, which had been scheduled for March 20, 2010 but was rejected by his rivals as well as international mediators.
Jean Ping said the AU were concerned that the parties refused to sign up to the settlement protocols, but were encouraged by the steps taken on the elections.
Christian Dior Bags Replica Madagascar was plunged into a political crisis in December 2008, when the government led by then President Marc Ravalomanana shut down a TV station owned by Rajoelina, then mayor of Madagascar's capital Antananarivo.
After waves of political protests against the government, Ravalomanana handed over the presidential power to the military in March 2009. Rajoelina then assumed executive power from the military and declared himself president of the HTA, confronting international pressure and opposition.
The unconstitutional change of government in the Indian Ocean Island was condemned by the European Union (EU), the United States and other international organization. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) suspended Madagascar's membership, denouncing the change of government there as a coup.
After negotiations brokered by international mediators, Rajoelina signed power-sharing agreements last August with the three other political camps in the country, respectively led by former presidents Ravalomanana, Didier Ratsiraka and Albert Zafy .
However, Rajoelina tore up the led tube lamps agreements late last year. He cancelled the appointment of a consensus prime minister and replaced him with senior military officer Colonel Camille Vital. He also unilaterally announced the plan to hold elections in the country in March 20, 2010.

Australian Treasurer happy with drop of unemployment rate
CANBERRA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan said Thursday replica breitling watches a drop of the unemployment rate to 5.2 percent in May has been a "great figure for Australia".
"These are great figures for Australia," Swan told Fairfax Radio Network in Perth, adding he had told a recent G20 meeting in South Korea that Australia's unemployment rate was further evidence of a strong economy and the success last year of avoiding the global recession.
"As we go forward and continue to grow we do need to continue to reform our economy so we can create jobs and grow sustain-ably by infrastructure investment," Swan said.
The unemployment Replica Breguet rate has returned to a level last seen in December as 36,400 workers gained full-time employment, new data released on Thursday showed.

At 21 I bought my first anti-ageing eye cream. The day was 1 March, my birthday, and the year a distant, pre-Blair memory. The cream was by Chanel. I don't remember how much it cost, but it hurt. Though what I thought was the alternative hurt worse. For me, 21 marked the beginning of the fight against ageing (oh, the naivety). And to address it properly and effectively, I believed I needed to throw money at it.
Fast-forward to 2010. As a beauty journalist and blogger I've spent 15 years immersed in face creams. And I've realised you don't have to spend a fortune on beauty products to attain good results. The truth is there is plenty out there that is affordable, looks good, feels good and will give you a great result. Yes, really. The beauty industry has bounded forward in great leaps over the past decade. Knowledge about ingredients and how to make sophisticated products is better than it has ever been, spurred on by an increasingly competitive market and huge conglomerates passing down their technological discoveries from prestige to mass-market brands. So here is the low-down on some of the affordable products I use, rate and love.
MAKE-UP
Corum Replica Watch MASCARA My great friend Jo prefers cheap mascara to expensive, because she says it doesn't clog. She swears by Maybelline's green and pink classic, Great Lash (Pounds 4.99; maybelline.co.uk). Jo has thick lashes, so it works for her. I find the brush too spindly for my thinner lashes and prefer Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara (Pounds 6.99), although it has been relegated to evening, because after a few weeks of use it does go a bit thick for daytime.
Max Factor Lash Extension Effect (Pounds 10.99; maxfactor.co.uk) is right now the best of the cheap mascaras at defining and lengthening lashes naturally. It has minute fibres in it, which add length. Clever.
FOUNDATION Generally speaking, I would always pay more for foundation, as colours and textures tend to look more natural; Chanel and Bobbi Brown are hard to beat. But when I heard that the make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury was working on an affordable line for Boots, Myface, I made a beeline for the foundation. Mymix (Pounds 12.71; 0845 070 8090) gives an expensive finish, and colours don't have that cheap, chalky look. Max Factor Second Skin Foundation (Pounds 13.99; maxfactor.co.uk) has a natural finish. Colours are good, if lacking in dark shades. I like the yellow- based Warm Almond.
EYES Good cheap eyeshadows can be hard to nail - too much shimmer, or chalky and dull. There are some gems, though. Beauty UK, recently launched at Superdrug, is a great find. Colours are high- quality and prices low. Look out for the Metallic Eye Quads (Pounds 3.49; 0800 096 1055): No 1 is a beautiful mix of bronze, taupe and brown; No 2 is brilliant for a classic smoky eye.
Barbara Daly Make-Up at Tesco is also well worth tracking down, especially the Eyeshadows (Pounds 4.22; 0800 505555), flattering, smoky browns and taupes in matte and slightly sheeny textures to rival Bobbi Brown. Antique, Truffle and Smoke are Omega Replica Watches favourites.
Topshop has just launched a terrific new make-up line. The catwalk make-up artist Hannah Murray is on board to consult on colour. Packaging is quirky, with a hand-drawn effect, and looks and feels as expensive as a make-up -artist range, but prices go from Pounds 4 to Pounds 12. I love a pinkish-grey eye pencil called First Light (Pounds 5; 0845 121 4519). It looks soft and pretty smudged around the eye over brown or black eyeliner.

Byline: Mail Foreign Service
A RUSSIAN spy who used a false Irish passport was sent home yesterday as part of the biggest swap of secret agents since the Cold War.
Richard Murphy, who travelled under the name 'Eunan Gerard Doherty', was one of ten spies arrested in the U.S. to be exchanged for four agents convicted in Russia.
The handover at Vienna airport came amid a tightly choreographed diplomatic dance. Two planes - one from New York and the other from Moscow - arrived in Vienna within minutes of each other, Nike Dunk SB Sneakers Shoes parked nose-to-tail at a remote area, then remained on the tarmac for about an hour and a half before departing just as quickly.
The swap completed, a Russian emergencies ministry plane left carrying the ten deportees.
Shortly afterwards, a Boeing 767 that brought the agents from New York took off, apparently with four Russians who had confessed to spy-ing for the West. The Russian flight was thought to be heading for Moscow, while the U.S. charter was believed to be flying to London.
Father-of-two Murphy, 43, who was arrested at his New Jersey home with his wife Cynthia, had been living in the States since the 1990s. His real name is Vladimir Guryev, while his wife's first name is Lydia.
Neighbours say he mostly stayed home with the children. His 39-yearold wife worked for a Manhattanbased accounting firm that offered tax advice, earning $135,000 a year, and had recently gained her MBA. Prosecutors said one of her assignments had been to network with Columbia University students. They both pleaded guilty to conspiring to act as an unregistered agent of a foreign country after being brought before the U.S. authorities.
Meanwhile, it emerged yesterday that Igor Sutyagin, an arms control researcher convicted of spying for the United States, had told relatives of the spy swap while still in prison and said he was being sent to Vienna and then London.
Both countries won admissions of crimes from the subjects of the exchange - guilty pleas in the U.S. and signed confessions in Russia.
In exchange for the ten Russian agents, the U.S. won freedom for, and access to, two former Russian intelligence colonels who had been convicted in their home country of compromising dozens of valuable Soviet-era and Russian agents. Two others also convicted of betraying Moscow were wrapped into the deal. One ex-colonel, Alexander Zaporozhsky, may have exposed information leading to the capture of Robert Hanssen and Aldrich Ames, two of the most damaging spies ever caught in the U.S. American officials some of those freed by Russia were ill, and cited humanitarian concerns in part for arranging the swap in such a hurry.
The ten Russian agents arrested in the U.S. had tried to blend into suburbia but been under watch for up to a decade by the FBI. Earlier this week, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree pardoning the four after officials forced them to sign confessions. The Kremlin identified them as Zaporozhsky, Sutyagin, Gennady Vasilenko and Sergei Skripal.
Skripal, a former colonel in Russian military intelligence, was found guilty of passing state secrets to Britain and sentenced to 13 years in prison in 2006. Vasilenko, a former KGB officer employed as a security officer by Russia's NTV television, was sentenced in 2006 to three years in prison on murky charges of illegal weapons possession and resistance to authorities. Blairsville Borough settled a lawsuit filed over the dismissal of its former police chief and hired a new chief who will take charge of the borough force Jan. 1.
Borough council voted Tuesday to approve a settlement with former police chief Donald Hess that was finalized by attorneys for the parties after a mediation conference earlier yesterday before federal Magistrate Judge Robert C. Terms of the settlement were not made public, but council voted Tuesday to make a $25,000 payment pursuant to the agreement.
